The Bible is the inspired Word of God. It is inerrant and contains the whole counsel of God. The Bible also harbors all fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith.
The Holy Scriptures of the old and new testament [a total of 66 books] is the Word of God which serves as the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct (2 Timothy 3:16 – 17)
The Bible is a guide that every believer uses to know what God is saying because it is His Word. It is through His Word that we know His will and this is what gives us bearing in our lives as Christians.
The scripture is where the greatest love story is recorded. The Bible has taken its measure of criticism from both believers and non-believers, but the ground fact remains―it is the inspired Word of God.
John’s message about the Word
John was born to pave the way for the long-awaited Messiah. Here is what he had to say about Him―
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
(John 1:1-4 KJV)
Jesus is the Word and He is God. He was there from the beginning to the end and He made everything during creation. He has life in Him, which is the main reason He came down to us―to give it to us.
Since Jesus is the Word, it is correct to say that the scripture is Jesus Himself. Anytime you read the Word you should be able to point out Jesus Christ in that particular scripture. If you can’t, then you will be missing the whole point.
The story of love
From the very beginning, God wanted to reconcile with man when man fell. He used all sorts of means―from judges to kings, to priests and to prophets. He wanted man near Him again.
Even when man was rebellious, God still stretched out His hand to save them from enemies and natural pestilences. God had (and still has) an abstruse love for humankind.
A love that made Him send His only son to die a shameful death for all races. This whole story is found in the Bible.
The purpose of scripture
Taking a look at the scripture in 2 Timothy 3:16, Paul is talking to everyone through the second letter addressed to Timothy, the enthusiastic young pioneer in spreading the gospel.
Paul writes that the inspiration of God gives all scripture. This is a very profound statement. If God inspires the scriptures, then everything about the scriptures is not ordinary; rather, very exceptional.
The verse points out that the scripture is profitable for doctrine; meaning that every principle must be based on scripture to make it accurate. Paul then goes on to say why the scripture was given unto man. He says that it is for reproof, correction, and instruction on righteousness.
Reproof here does not mean that the scripture is there to condemn or excoriate. Jesus Christ did not come to condemn anyone but to give us life (John 3:17-18).
Consequently, anyone who believes in Jesus Christ dying and resurrecting rises above condemnation because they now belong to Jesus Christ. The Bible is there to point out what is not right and why. It therefore gives a certain sense of direction.
This is significant in that it creates a conviction of sin leading to repentance and confession when you realize that you have done wrong.
Furthermore, the Word gives correction, which means providing a way to attain the right position away from condemnation. This way is Christ Himself and salvation.
The Bible is here to guide
After salvation, however, a believer needs to stay righteous and the Word is there to give us all the instructions that we need for that to happen.
The three pillars above give the main reasons why a believer should look into the Word for direction, guidance, insight, and hope. At World outreach, we believe the Word is the backbone for every believer.
We believe that it points out what is right and what is wrong. From that we have then established what the correct doctrine to follow and to teach is.
It is very pertinent to determine what doctrine is right and what is not. Several fallacies revolving around the Bible have been developed; a phenomenon that Paul perceived in his time and recorded in 2 Timothy 3:13.
Study to show yourself approved!
Read and study the Word to see what is good and what is not and what is right and what is not. As you do that remember that you need the Holy Spirit, the author, to interpret it for you since an author knows precisely what they meant as they wrote.
